Are the Iraqi "insurgents" just citizens of iraq that strongly oppose the U.S. invasion of their country?

I mean lets put ourselves in their position..you see tanks rolling in your neighborhood, crushing everything around you, troops kicking in doors like a DEA agent, terrorizing everyone in sight, wouldn't you take up arms like a good ol' boy?
